The Red Sock Laundrette and Cleaning Service

Our Story

We are often asked how our name came about – is it related to the red socks that mountaineers here in the Cairngorms National Park traditionally wore, or how about that rogue single red sock in the washing basket? In fact, during inception of the business, a 16 year old member of staff recalled her story of a red sock winding its way into her load of white washing and turning everything pink. Of course, this never happens in our professional launderette, but the vision remained and hence the name.

We pride ourselves in employing local staff as well as senior pupils from the Grantown Grammar School. By employing staff during peak and off-peak seasons, we provide job stability for local residents in a traditionally tourist area.

This, in turn, ensures our customers have the benefit of the high standards the continuity of employment brings. Previously, the business won the Highlands and Islands Diversity Award for Staff Retention and Development.

The Red Sock gets involved in the community too. We are proud sponsors of Strathspey Camanachd men’s and ladies’ teams and regularly launder their well-used kit after a hard shinty match.

The Red Sock is proud to sponsor one of the regular shows on our local community radio station, Speysound – Keeping it Country on Mondays at 7pm. Staffed by volunteers it broadcasts from the highest FM radio transmitter in the UK.

And here is a wee video of us having fun at the beach!
